Someone asked, why start an AfterSchool program in Huntsville? We at The Branch Family Worship Center are always looking for ways to reach out and provide practical solutions to the needs in Huntsville. We learned that there is a need for affordable AfterSchool Programs that gives children the opportunity to increase reading levels and allow participation in S.T.E.A.M. activities This program also provides a safe environment for children and helps to lower the amount of latchkey students which can possibly put them at risk.

FUNDAMENTALS

According to the U.S. Department of Education’s “Use of Technology in Teaching and Learning” website:

“Technology ushers in fundamental structural changes that can be integral to achieving significant improvements in productivity. Used to support both teaching and learning, technology infuses classrooms with digital learning tools, such as computers and hand held devices; expands course offerings, experiences, and learning materials; supports learning 24 hours a day, 7 days a week; builds 21st century skills; increases student engagement and motivation; and accelerates learning.”

STEM/STEAM

Science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics are critical tools for all young leaders. The Reading Plus Program focuses on STEAM skills throughout the year to reinforce the knowledge gained in school. Throughout the year we work on math facts sheets, play math games and use project-based learning to bring science and engineering into our center. Technology of different types are used within the program from iPads & laptops to Echo Dots and blue tooth robots. Art is experienced in different forms from painting, clay modeling to singing, dancing and acting.
